Ordinarily, in our daily lives we have wishes and aspirations and seek to advance ourselves. Instinctively, in the quest for our advancement, the necessary information is then sought. The information obtained serves as a precursor to, and underpins the action/s for our cause. Therefore only relevant and necessary information is crucial here to avoid information overload and possible distraction.
Analysis of only relevant and necessary information saves time while allowing for focus on the goal/s at hand. More often than not, information gathering tends to be the easy part of the segmented endeavour to advance. However, without translating the information into action, the incomplete exercise seems futile. Therefore action adds to our body of knowledge, inter-personal interactions, skills and organizational/corporate experience.
At the action stage, is where I would encourage individuals to have vigour and tenacity to realize their goals. Once the realization of goals is achieved; manifestations of transformation continue to exhibit themselves as time progresses. Action is the road less travelled by some people, yet it is part of the synergy. Realization sets a precedent and impels a person or organization to transcend to greater heights. When transformation is tangible, this gives a feeling of true emancipation.
I wish you well in your New Year resolutions.
“If you give up every time you don’t achieve the immediate gain you want, you’re just guaranteeing that the worst is going to happen.” – Noam Chomsky
Life and its intricacies include learning curves that need to be navigated skilfully; with determination, constancy and optimism, in order to have desired outcomes. You cannot guarantee that all that you do will not have any hiccup/s. However you should endeavour to ensure your unwavering determination and input, in order to have your desired outcome/s. Pertinent to the process of striving, is avoidance of mediocrity and not being cheated into settling for less than what you truly deserve. Be determined in pursuit of the expansion of your business ventures, good health, scholarly attainments or provision of good leadership.
Your determination will prevail over the subversive whispers in your mind. Empirically, the pessimist associate’s message to you regarding your endeavour/s is often similar to the inhibiting whispers. In these circumstances the choice you need to make does not need any more clarity… optimism. A simple challenge to the inhibiting insinuations is to enumerate a few of your achievements and then know that it is possible to achieve things. The rationale here is that the pessimist wants to take you down the road of: ”give up.” If you went down that road, it would not facilitate achievement in your undertakings. Therefore your achievements exhibit the fact that it is possible to attain your goals. Once you are clear about what you want to achieve, your brain will be a conduit and receptacle for the specifics of how you navigate your way to achievement.
In the midst of your endeavours, there could be a glitch or two. The glitch means that it is a simple endurance test which you should pass by affirming that: “you will not distract me, I will maintain my constancy.” In acting this way you will have decapitated the glitch/s; and this sends an exemplary message to any other potential glitch. The resultant effect is that it will be plain sailing for you to your desired achievement. You may now concur with me that determination, constancy and optimism facilitate attainment; and if so, good riddance.
I wish you well in your business ventures, quest for good health and wellness, scholarly attainment, happiness and good leadership.
“How did they get so smart? Their intellectual powers were developed by a medium that fostered abstract thought”. – Neil Postman
Abstract thought allows us to think of things that, if followed through and actualised, often result in innovations and actions that are beneficial to many. Abstract thinking allows us to journey out of the present moment as in here and now. Abstract thinking is like tapping into a repository of ideas that you can implement for your betterment. A person thinks of doing or making something that is not present. A lot of innovations are products of abstract thinking.
On a corporate level, abstract thinking can give rise to prudent strategic planning, implementation and increased customer satisfaction of your products and services. Abstract thinking can give to realities of value addition to your products and services. Organisations and leaders often talk about their vision for the future. It is that abstract thinking that is translated into reality in due course, and when successful, the benefits are trans-boundary. In such circumstances, it can therefore be said that the organisation’s or leader’s success is attributed to abstract thinking.
On an individual level, you can use abstract thinking to foster good business ideas and good leadership. Let me make reference to a commonly used old saying: “You need speculate to accumulate”. The speculation aspect is abstract thinking action. Individuals who are experiencing stagnation and not making good progress in achieving their desired goals have a course of action that they could take.
Exploration of abstract thinking can bring about relief from such confining and repulsive situations. I was once in a situation that did not foster progress; in fact it subverted developmental thoughts and ideas. I now celebrate my new found freedom to put my skills and abilities to good use; for the benefit of myself and others.
One of the greetings often used in churches at the end of the service is: “May peace be with you”. The Islamic greeting: “Asalaam alaykum” has the same meaning: “Peace be with you”. Indeed, this is a very true assertion; I believe that when you are at peace, you can be more innovative; be it in leadership or business.
I wish you well.
The recent herbal walk in East London on 26th November 2016 was a very worthwhile endeavour. Prior to the walk, the tea meditation was helpful in focusing and being in the present. Taking into account that we were in the winter season and it was a cold day, I was appreciative of the warmth derived from the tea. I was also appreciative of the spiritual and medicinal benefits of drinking the peppermint tea that I drank. Tea meditation entails mindfulness of the present moment in each step taken; from the preparatory process, sitting and drinking the tea.
Drinking one cup of tea could take almost an hour, while paying attention to your breathing and being mindful of each action including swallowing. Expression of thanks is pertinent to the tea meditation process. The relaxation, alertness and calmness derived from the tea meditation can help with stress and anxiety relief, while having a focused mind. The nexus of the steps in the meditation process from start to finish can facilitate a sense of gratitude for divine providence.
During the herbal walk several reminders resurfaced. There was acknowledgement that the herbs we were harvesting were helpful to us with regard to their medicinal and spiritual benefits, and the oxygen derived from them. Plants derive carbon dioxide from humans, a good example of the interdependency of living things in the ecosystem. Other living organisms derive benefit from the herbs we use, hence the need to share. There was also a reminder that when harvesting, uprooting the whole plant prevents re-grown coupled with deprivation of other creatures from benefiting from the herb.
Giving thanks or expression of gratitude immediately after harvests is a good gesture of appreciation. The herbal harvesting etiquette reminded me of the Sustainable Development Goals, premised on conservation and restoration. During the walk, a range of known herbs were identified; including Nettle, Yarrow, Hawthorne and many more. I was privileged to drink an infusion of Ginger, Apple and Hawthorne tea for the first time, and to derive benefits from that combination. My thanks to Rabiah Abdullah; the organizer, lead person and founder of the Herbal Blessing Clinic.
