Strategic Ambiguity

Strategic Ambiguity

I believe that one of the valuable attributes of a good chess player is strategy; they are often wonderful strategists.   Strategy is a plan of action designed to achieve a long-term goal or aim.  In life, it can be a helpful thing to have strategies for the aims and goals we have, a kind of master plan of how to get what you want and to where you want.  Self-made guiding principles that are followed through, in charting a way forward through the choppy sea of life.  In doing so, nasty surprises may not be totally eliminated, but can be greatly reduced to negligible levels.

However, a word of caution is that in doing so, there has to be a healthy amount of strategic ambiguity.  Yes, strategic ambiguity in a world of competition in almost everything; from studies to work/business is a helpful tool.  I do not mean to be apocalyptic but, the realities of life seem to suggest that perhaps not everybody is charitable towards another.  This is where strategic ambiguity can be helpful in protecting you from uncharitable groups and individuals along the way to achieving your goals.  Reading and knowing situations and people at a given point in time and place can help to inform you if it is worth being clear or ambiguous.

You know your intentions well, but you may not know or be so sure of other people’s intentions.  Make god use of your social intelligence skills.  Just because you could be strategically ambiguous as and when necessary, you should maintain consistency regarding you/your organisation’s strategy. When you review situations and see where you have been, where you are at the moment and if your goal is within reach, is how you can tell whether you are making good or slow  or no progress.  Where re-calibration of particular aspects is necessary, do just that.  Additionally, your wellness matters and should be maintained.  Furthermore, where other professional expertise can be of help, mine inclusive; you can  make your wise choices at your convenience.

I wish you well.

When Wishing for Rain, Equip Yourself for the Possibility of Thunder

Thunder

Commonly, our individuality is characterised by wishes, goals and aspirations.  I’m yet to meet a person who has no wishes or aspirations whatsoever.  More often than not, the individual has an intended life or business trajectory that he/she would like to follow through. However, for best results, the minute specifics in the course of the said trajectory/life plan may need some refining and polishing.  My reference to refining and polishing is that at times, little or no attention is paid to the possibility of the hurdles, twists and turns as in time and space.

Tempestuous moments are not in all situations but a mere possibility in some, and should not be overlooked when we are deeply immersed in harmonics.  Yes, having contingency plans or measures are a clever thing to do; paying attention to those ‘blind spots’ and ‘dips’.  Crop farmers like having rain on a regular basis because of the benefits derived therefrom.  However they are also mindful of the possibility of thunder and lightning, and their ancillary effects. Buildings have lightening rods or lightening conductors that interface with the earth in the event of lightening; that is a contingency measure.

Please do not allow your mind to harbour pessimism, no. Your plan/project is work in progress, do not cease to plan until your goals are realised.  Additionally, you are not obliged to lay open your ‘pack of cards’ for others to evaluate. You are a good strategist and optimist, who is also realistic; this helps the feasibility and viability of your plans.  You are a good leader who takes steps to be risk averse or, at least safety measures for potential risk which may not always translate into actual risk.

You are the mastermind of your projects, you know what to do as and when the need arises, including the professional input you can enlist, mine inclusive, if you so wish.  The excitement that comes with success in a particular field, business or project is euphoric, a well deserved feeling.

I wish you well.

From Being Ordinary to Extraordinary

You have laid your strategy, just follow through. It is the tactics that you need to change contextually, as and when necessary.

Excavate what you will of divine providence on a grand scale using power tools with minimum effort.  Any extra stuff in your possession can be passed onto those that are in genuine need and do not have means.  Avoid using hand shovels; they require a lot of effort with minimal returns over a long time.  You are not being lazy but rather a smart hardworking individual.  You do not expend physical energy unnecessarily, you save it for leisurely activities like mountaineering and weight lifting in the gym, how smart!

Remember that your attitude has a bearing on your altitude on this passage from being ordinary to being extraordinary.  Cultivate your bird’s eye view of things; leave the worm’s eye view to those who have chosen that.

Surely, you are profoundly different, because you do not take a cursory approach to doing your business.  You are analytical and use a fine tooth comb in your ventures.  Some uncharitable individuals may call you fussy, but the truth is that you are thorough.  You are safe and will not be sorry.  The difference between you and them is that there is likelihood that they will be sorry in due course.

With this approach, you have inoculated yourself and your business from those who try to hoodwink or detract you.  The aim is not to make losses; however, if the gains you are making far outweigh the losses, then you are making commendable progress.

Focus like a laser and have a safe distance between yourself and the toxicity of those whose mindset is defeatist, they are a hindrance.  If they are too close for comfort, you will not be extraordinary, and if you want to be, maintaining a safe distance between you and them is an option – choose!

In transacting with others, your speech ripples with intelligence, genuineness and is from the heart, because it is.  Your speech is not vacuous material designed to fill time.  Your time is so precious that every second is cherished and is invaluable.

You are purposeful with good and worthwhile intent, for the benefit of yourself and those that are helped through your work.  You truly are extraordinary.

I wish you well.

 Reflecting Holistically

reflecting-holistically

Reflecting on the week/month/year, whatever your vantage point, it is a helpful exercise with a multitude of benefits.   Business or whatever work necessitates good productivity and efficiency for good financial rewards to be realised.  However, reflecting on the work and well-being to date is a helpful tool in improving efficiency and output.  When reflecting, you know how you went about what you went about, and you need to know how you could manage a similar situation better, next time.  Reflecting and devising better strategies is a work in progress because situations are dynamic, changing over time and ever changing.

Additionally, that board meeting or business deal could have either diminished or boosted your self-esteem.  On reflection, you have learned what you have learned, know which areas need improvement.  Did events unfold according to your expectations?  When you look at expectations versus reality and there was a mismatch, this becomes an obvious trigger for better strategy and action next time.  Furthermore, realistic expectations rarely disappoint.  Preconceived ideas can be a two edged weapon, they can be of help or a hindrance to achieving desired outcomes.  Open-mindedness, the receptacle for all that comes is a good thing, coupled with an analytical and discerning mind to make the right decisions.

When reflecting, I exhort you to take a holistic approach, among other things, integrating your well-being as well.  Wellness should be pertinent to your future plans and aspirations, self neglect should not be an option to explore.  Taking a holistic approach to reflecting, by integrating your well-being can stave off: self neglect, low productivity, low returns, diminished confidence, avoidable morbidity and the adverse effects of some medicines.  As a certified healer and herbalist, I can be of help where situations necessitate and where my assistance is requested.

I wish you well in your endeavours.
